Successful 2024 Championship Season Comes to an End
SOWEGANS Soccer Club’s season came to an end Saturday night. We lost 3-2 in
extra time to Gaffa FC, the 2-time GCPL champions out of Jackson, Mississippi, in the
quarterfinals. But the disappointing loss didn’t take away from our amazing 2024
campaign. SOWEGANS SC won the GCPL Eastern Conference Championship, going 8-2
with a league high 24 points in only our second season. The fan support was great all
season, leading to a 5-1 record at home. Head Coach Ricky Zambrano was pleased
with the faithful support, naming Turtle Nation the “best fans in the Gulf Coast Premier
League.”
Club President Josh Duckworth celebrates the growth of the club over the last two
season: “It’s been beautiful to see! We’ve got players and supporters representing all
corners of southwest, GA. We started this club to be an asset for SWGA, and gamedays
are becoming the place to be on Saturday nights in the summer in SWGA!”
We saw attendance increase this season, with over 300 supporters setting a club record for a game. But SSC isn’t satisfied and believes there’s more opportunity for growth in the
future.
“We’ve got so much room to grow. The vast majority of SWGA still doesn’t know
that we exist, so we’ll continue working hard in the offseason to change that. 2024 was
great, and we anticipate an even better 2025!”
